The GCE results came out yesterday and my postcard arrived this morning. I scraped through Physics with Chemistry on 50%, for Eng. Lit. I managed 65% and by some miracle I got 75% for Latin! So that’s got my Ordinary level exams out of the way and I can now concentrate on my Advanced levels. I’ve already been working on A-level French, Spanish and History so now I’ll be able to have a shot at Latin as well, although it means quite a lot of work on my plate for the next couple of years.
I saw John in Woolton village this afternoon and he had failed just about everything, although he didn’t seem to actually care. He said he had ideas of going to Art School but with his spectacular lack of results, hardly surprising as he had been sagging off school so much last term, somebody was going to have to do a lot of arm twisting to get him accepted. If he could only get an interview there he could show them his caricatures and maybe somebody would recognise that he has real talent and give him a place, despite his low marks.
Last night with Mickey Rice and Jammy Hartley I went to try to learn how to dance properly. We went to the Carlton School of Dance on the corner of Queens Drive and Allerton Road in Penny Lane. I actually know the woman who runs it, her name is Dorothy Wood, as my sister Rosemary goes to her ballet and tap classes in her other dancing school which is in Woolton. My twin cousins, Pat and Judith, who live in Herondale Road in Penny Lane, were also there with some of their friends from Aigburth Vale girls school so it should be fun, especially learning to jive as I have been making some really feeble attempts at it at home without success. I think Mickey is rather smitten with Pat so we’ll have to see what develops.
